Our Purpose

We exist to help people find and follow Jesus seven days a week.

This is the “why” of what we do. We are convinced that every person needs to know the grace and power of having an authentic, life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ

Our Strategy

OIKOS: The 8-15 people in your relational network. Oikos simply means that God has supernaturally and strategically placed people in your relational network that he wants you to reach. We put them on our Oikos prayer list and then watch God go to work.

That means the reason you have your job, the reason your kids are on that baseball team and the reason you were born into your family are all the same. God wants to use you for His great purpose of showing His love to your Oikos.

Our Values

Our core values define our ideals and help us measure our effectiveness in mission.
Everything we do revolves around five core values that keep us on track in helping people follow Jesus with their hearts and lives. These values are:

01

Found People Find People

Remember your ‘Oikos’, the 8 to 15 people you interact with on a regular basis, and share what you have found.

02

Growing People Change

A deeper commitment and growth should be evident in the life of a follower of Christ.

03

You Can’t Outgive God

When you support God’s work, He provides all you need… and more!

04

You'll Never Walk Alone

Joining a Small Group and/or a Ministry Team will help you stay on track and gain new lifelong friends.

05

Saved People Serve People

We are called to serve not only each other, but also our community.

Meet Jeremy McGarity

Lead Pastor of Skyline Church

Pastor Jeremy is a native San Diegan with deep East County roots and a lifelong love for the Padres and Chargers. Before stepping into ministry, he spent ten years playing minor-league baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Duluth-Superior Dukes. After an injury ended his baseball career in 1998, he graduated with honors from San Diego Christian College in 1999, where he also met his late wife, Janie. Together, they raised three incredible boys.

Pastor Jeremy holds a B.A. in Biblical Exposition, two Master’s Degrees from Haggard Graduate School of Theology at Azusa Pacific University (M.A. in Religion with an emphasis in Theology and Ethics, and a Master of Divinity), and a Doctorate in Church Growth and Multiplication from Talbot School of Theology at BIOLA University.

Janie was Jeremy’s greatest teammate in life and ministry until her passing in 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her legacy of faith, strength, and love continues to inspire Jeremy, their family, and the entire Skyline Church community.

Pastor Jeremy is passionate about helping people understand and live out God’s Word. He often says, “I’ll give you something on Sunday that you can use on Monday.”

July 1954
Skyline Church is Founded
Skyline Church was founded by Orval Butcher in Lemon Grove, California, on Skyline Drive & Jamacha Boulevard. The sanctuary opened in July when 175 men, women, and children attended the first Sunday School and morning worship at Skyline Church. By 1955, Skyline Church had grown to 500 men, women & children.
April 1974
Construction of New Sanctuary
In April 1974, the new sanctuary was dedicated, just in time for the twentieth-anniversary celebration. A 1,000 seat auditorium was completed because Skyline Church outgrew its 350-seat sanctuary. As the sanctuary was being built, Skyline started "The Living Christmas Tree" at the Civic Auditorium, which became a special tradition that generated over $500,000 for the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation in 1982.

Our Story

Skyline Church’s history is a testimony of men & women who saw themselves as a family who could overcome anything, and so simply followed God’s plan for their small corner of a community that continues to grow and impact the community and world.

Starting with an average attendance of 175, Skyline Church has seen God’s faithfulness through growth and many decisions for Christ! Check out our full story to see the legacy and foundation that Skyline Church is built on!
