COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

The Community Emergency Response Team program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhoods or workplaces following a disaster. As Christians, we not only help in a practical way but also a spiritual way.

SKYLINE FOOD PANTRY | FEED THE NEED

John answered, “If you have two shirts, share with someone who does not have one. If you have food, share that too.” Luke 3:11

Each month many families in our community and church contact Skyline Pantry requesting food assistance. We operate completely from your donations. Sharing food is being obedient to God’s Word.

The first Sunday of each month, we request that you bring in your non-perishables or grocery gift cards to the Feed the Need table located in the Welcome Garden. A shopping list of the most needed items is available at the table or here. (provide link to list).

We also pick up bread from grocery stores and distribute to a local charity weekly.

If you have a heart to help those in need in a very practical way, please join our Skyline Food Pantry Team. For more info on how to get involved contact:

SKYLINE AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING (SAHT)

Following in our Wesleyan tradition of fighting injustice, SAHT is a group of concerned citizens who want to make a difference to help abolish HT locally.  Our primary focus is in the prevention arena through education/raising awareness, legislative action, working with SD County in training caring adults to mentor foster children, supporting foster care programs, and prayer.  We also have service based projects such as Poster Placement Days, participate in prayer walks/rallies and are active in Churches Against Trafficking.

Our greatest need is people willing to be active in our Poster Placement Outreach. Don’t think someone else is answering the call. We need at least 6 more people to cover the required businesses in each zip code we reach on any particular outreach day.

We will be visiting massage parlors and bars that are required to display an informational poster on human trafficking. All of the materials will be given to you at a brief training prior to the outreach that same day.  Please click on the SignUpGenius button below for more information or call/email Alison Labastida at 858-349-5745 alisonlabastida@outlook.com

CHRISTMAS OUTREACH

Every Christmas Skyline blesses others in a variety of ways. Sometimes it is for some of our church family who have fallen on hard times; sometimes it is an outreach to the community.

From providing toys, food and clothing, to family movie nights, we work to meet the needs that God reveals to us. We always need donations and volunteers to help with whatever God puts on our hearts. Won’t you be a part of helping to make Christmas a joyful time for others?

GIDEON BIBLES

Distributing Bibles and New Testaments around the world having God’s word can and does lead people to faith in Christ, and those new Christians then grow by studying their Scriptures and even use them to share their faith with others. For this reason, we focus on distributing complete Bibles, New Testaments, or portions thereof. These copies of God’s Word are printed in more than 90 languages and are either given directly to certain individuals or placed in selected public locations where large numbers of people, who may be searching for answers, will have the ability to encounter the Word of God.

You can donate bibles in memory of a loved one that passed away by picking a card at the Gideon display in the Student Center lobby.

GOD’S EXTENDED HAND

God’s Extended Hand is a place of evangelical ministry aimed at showing the homeless population of San Diego the love of God. We endeavor to do this by providing a gathering place where they can come and experience a sit down, restaurant-style meal in a peace-filled, Christ-focused environment. All meals are offered free on a first come, first served basis. God’s Extended Hand is a mission, opportunity, and venue for the greater church body of San Diego to share our blessings with the needy and poor. Located downtown at the corner of 16th and Island Ave., Skyline serves the 3rd Friday of each month at 9am.

HANDS & FEET MINISTRY (ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LITERACY PROGRAM)

What on earth is going on in those public school classrooms? More than you could ever imagine! Want to be part of the change? Christians are called to engage our society, not passively resign themselves to it.

Over 6.3 million children are reported to CPS each year and these children become the alcohol and drug abusers, the mentally ill, the sexually dysfunctional and most recently the sex trafficked. They have a life expectancy of 20 years shorter than the average person. Illiteracy depletes our society in many was as well. Elementary schools are located within blocks from Skyline Church. Volunteer opportunities include reading with students, helping in classrooms or the library, running after-school clubs-including Christina clubs-or tutoring. You may not be able to change the world, but you can change a handful of lives and become educated enough on the public school system to know how to more effectively pray for it.

Together we can impact the future and be God’s hands and feet to a hurting world, starting one school at a time.

SONSHINE HAVEN

Sonshine Haven is an organization that serves children and their families through Christian clubs in the public schools, life skills classes offered during school vacations and monthly events that encourage and strengthen their family members. Volunteers are needed to join us at many elementary and middle schools. Clubs meet on school campuses, directly after school, once a week. These classes are an integral part of the Sonshine Haven mission in providing outlets of personal and spiritual growth to all their students!
